2 channels Video installation

Commissioned by Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum, YANG crafted this dual-channel (dual-screen) work during a residency and field study in Dunhuang from July to September 2024. One screen predominantly features the Mingsha Moutain Scenic Area, capturing the local customs, cultural history, and tourism of Dunhuang. On the other screen, the artist slowly unfolds images selected from Dunhuang murals in the style of traditional Chinese scroll paintings. The characters, architecture, and landscapes from the murals subtly interact with the live-action footage on the first screen, creating a delicate interplay between the ancient and the modern.

The audience ascends the steps of the podium to an elevated platform, where their recitation is captured by the microphone. Through AI system processing, their voices are transformed into ten distinct vocal variations - encompassing men, women, the elderly, and children - that resonate simultaneously. This demonstrates how a single speaker's voice can be instantly converted into a chorus of diverse voices in real time.
