The sculptural form is modeled after the fruit of the caltrop plant. The caltrop fruit is hard and covered with sharp spines, which often point upward when it falls to the ground, easily piercing the feet of animals or puncturing tires. Originally native to subtropical arid regions, the caltrop is now widespread across warm areas of the world. Due to its strong vitality and highly effective seed dispersal, it has become an invasive weed in some regions and is classified as a harmful species.
